Clark D. Horning, 81, U.S. Air Force Veteran

He was born March 7, 1932 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Clark graduated from Lorain High School Class of 1950 B. He was signed by the Cleveland Indians in 1951 to play baseball in their farm system and participated in training camp in Daytona Beach, Florida. When the Korean War began, Clark served with the US Air Force for 4 years as a mechanic on planes such as the P-51 Mustang and the experimental P-80 and F-80 Shooting Star.

Clark worked at BF Goodrich in Avon Lake as an advanced senior research technologist retiring in 1992 after 38 years.

He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain. He enjoyed woodworking, yardwork and coaching Lorain Youth Baseball, Little League and Hot Stove Baseball. He loved watching the Tribe.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Ida Horning (nee Belletti), daughter Debbie Fossie of Lorain, grandsons James (Aleisha) Fossie of Amherst and Joshua Fossie of Lakewood, great grandchildren Julia and Cole Fossie, several cousins , dear friends Frank and Audrey Higgins and many wonderful neighbors and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents George Horning in 1990 and Kathrine Horning (nee Lehman) in 2002 and son-in-law James Fossie in 1992.

The family will receive friends Tuesday 3-7 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 am in the funeral chapel. The Rev. Jimmy Madsen, pastor of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff in the intensive care unit at Mercy Regional Medical Center for the care they gave to Clark during his stay.
