Maria Shivey, 63, Enjoyed Dancing & Cooking

She was born June 5, 1950 in Puerto Rico and had resided in the Lorain area since 1957.
Maria graduated from Admiral King High School in Lorain in 1969 and from Lorain County Community College in 1971 with an Associate Degree in Business.
Maria worked at Standard Oil and Diamond Shamrock, both in Cleveland, Ridge Tool in Elyria and in the library at both Elyria Catholic High School and Lorain County Community College.
She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Elyria and Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain where she had attended as a youth and was married.
Maria enjoyed dancing, cooking, flowers in her yard, spending time with her family and hosting family celebrations and parties at her home. She had a great sense of humor.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years Michael Shivey, children Eric (Amanda) Shivey, Kelly (Matt) Cox, Melissa (Armando) Suarez, Michael (Dawn) Shivey and Mark (Cathy) Shivey, 7 grandchildren, sisters Lucy Carrion of Lorain, Terri (Rob) Maccarone of California and Margie Mendez of Lorain, brothers Jose Carrion of Lorain, Rey (Sue) Carrion of Illinois and Benny Carrion of Elyria and 6 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Carlos & Paulina Carrion (nee Martinez) and sister Carmen Maldonado.
The family will receive friends Friday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave, Lorain. The Rev. William Thaden, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
