Walter Welder, 80, Enjoyed Entertaining Family & Friends
Walter Welder, 80, of New Port Richey FL, formerly of Lorain and Vermilion, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday February 21, 2014 at his home in New Port Richey, following a 22 month battle with pancreatic cancer. His loving wife was at his bedside.
Mr. Welder was born in Brookville, PA on July 28, 1933, the son of the late Peter J. and Ella (nee Pierce) Welder. He was raised from an early age by foster parents, the late Howard and Agnes McClellan. He was a 1951 graduate of Brookville High School and moved to Lorain at that time.
He was a research and development technician at the former B.F. Goodrich Company in Avon Lake. He retired from Goodrich in 1995 following 39 years of service. From 1969 to 1984 he worked part time for the former Cleveland Lorain Highway Coach Company, driving motor coaches locally and for chartered tours.
Mr. Welder enjoyed golf, gardening, travel, cooking and entertaining family and friends with his wife during retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Janet (nee MacLachlan) Welder, daughter Ellen M. Morrison of Toronto Canada, son Walter P. Welder of Louisville KY, daughters Wendy J. Welder of Cincinnati, Katie S. Janke (Doug) of Westlake, son Thomas A. Welder of Port Richey FL and grandson Angus Morrison of New Brunswick Canada.
In addition to his birth and foster parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Virginia Welder, Clara Welder and foster brother Paul Kilduff.
Friends may call on Friday, February 28, 2014 from 11:00 am until services at 1:00 p.m. at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals,1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain. The Revs. Mary and Steve Hammond, pastors of the Peace Community Church in Oberlin will officiate.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Amherst.
