Delores E. Harwood, 81, Parishioner of Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church

Photo of Delores E. Harwood Delores E. “Dee” Harwood (nee Urbanik), age 81, of Amherst Township, passed away on Monday February 24th, 2014 while a resident of the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph.

Delores was born in Sheffield Township on June 30, 1932 and was a 1950 graduate of Clearview High School.

She was formerly employed as an inspector at the Worthington Golf Ball Company in Elyria.

Mrs. Harwood was a parishioner of Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church in South Amherst. In her free time she enjoyed cooking and solving word search puzzles. Additional interests included taking trips to Maine and playing penny slot machines.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years Norman, by her son James R. Harwood (Sandra) residing in Rivesville, West Virginia and daughter Susan Harwood living in New Haven, Connecticut. She also leaves seven grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Mary (nee Kiska) Urbanik, by brothers Joseph Urbanek, Frank “Fritz” Urbanek, and William Urbanik, and by sisters Theresa Zehel, Helen Wonderly, Agnes Kotcher, and Pauline Johnson.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel; a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Road, Elyria Township. Reverend Donald Dunson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

The family encourages memorial contributions to Mercy New Life Hospice.
