Andrew John Kovacs, 76, Avid Sports Fan

Photo of Andrew John Kovacs Andrew John Kovacs, 76, of Lorain, died Wednesday March 5, 2014 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a short illness.

He was born October 31, 1937 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain resident. Andrew graduated from Lorain High School in 1955 and joined the US Marine Corps serving from April 1956 to April 1959.

For 47 years, Andrew worked at the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant, with his last duty assignment as a cycle checker.
Andrew was a member of the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain. He was a member of the Amvets Post #47 in Lorain and was an avid Ohio State, Cleveland Browns, and Cleveland Indians fan. He also enjoyed casino gambling.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years Mary Ellen (nee Kosco) of Lorain, daughter Kim Kovacs and son Scott Kovacs, both of Amherst, sisters Betty Ann Rogers (Tom) of Sycamore Hills and Alice Kovacs of Rocky River, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Anna Kovacs.

The family will receive friends Friday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:15 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. The Rev. Lawrence Martello, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
