William P. Butler Jr., 86, Enjoyed Bowling & Traveling

Photo of William P. Butler Jr. William P. Butler, Jr, 86, of Lorain passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the Parkside Villa Nursing Home in Middleburg Heights following a 6 month illness.

Mr. Butler was born in Moxham, PA on January 31, 1928, the son of the late William P. and Belle B. (nee Barnes) Butler. He was a graduate of Johnstown High School and then joined the US Navy during WWII. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from University of Pittsburgh.

He married and moved to Lorain in 1952 and worked in management at US Steel for 31 years. He was an active member in the First Congregational Church in Lorain.

Mr. Butler also worked at Lorain High School as an assistant instructor in the building trades career education program for seven years

He enjoyed bowling, traveling , boating, and loved history.

Mr. Butler is survived by his wife of 61 years, Miriam J. (nee Johnson) Butler, daughters Shelley D, (Mark) Butler-Paine of Milton, DE, Carol J. (Marv) Butler-Gnagey of Marietta, GA, sons Jeffrey W. (Mary Ellen) Butler of Strongsville, Todd J. (Mary) Butler of Loveland, grandchildren, Christy, Melissa, Chad, Nicholas, Brian, and a great grandchild, Easton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Lois Miller, Dorothy Nour, brothers, Richard Butler, and Donald Butler.

Memorial Services will be Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Congregational UCC Church, 423 Washington Ave, Lorain, with Rev. Karen Farthing, pastor, officiating.

Burial with full military honors will be Monday, March 17 at 9:30 a.m. in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Rittman, OH.

The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational UCC Church, 423 Washington Ave., Lorain, Ohio 44052 or Hospice of Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44110.
