Arnold J. Ambrosio, 78, Referee for CYO Girls and boys basketball
Arnold J. Ambrosio, 78, of Sheffield Village, died Sunday March 16, 2014 at Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake.He was born September 10, 1935 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Arnold graduated from Clearview High School. He started working at Prout Chevrolet in Elyria in 1956 and became parts department manager in 1958. He continued as parts department manager when the dealership became Ron Miller Chevrolet and Jack Matia and retired after working over 30 years. Arnold received many awards for his service and sales including General Motors Parts Manager-of- the- Year. Later, he worked part-time for RGIS Inventory where he spent time with family and friends.
For many years, Arnold was a referee for CYO girls and boys basketball. In his younger years, he played golf and bowled. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was a fixture at their sporting events and school activities.
Arnold was a founding member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Elaine Bunny Ambrosio (nee Kulcsar), children Diane Pruchinsky and Darlene Straub, both of Westlake, Chris (Emily) Ambrosio of Avon and Jeff Ambrosio of Elyria, 10 grandchildren, brother Leonard (Anna) Ambrosio of Laredo, TX and sisters Stella Lopez of Elyria, Camaerina Gutierrez of Lorain and Fally Munsell of Buena Park, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Julia Ambrosio (nee Ramirez), brothers Martin and Louis and sisters Mimi and Consuelo.
The family will receive friends Wednesday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada a Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N. Ridge Rd, Elyria Twp. The Rev. Donald Dunson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
