Edward T. Kobasic, Sr., 93, U.S. Navy Veteran

He was born June 20, 1920 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Mr. Kobasic was a graduate of Lorain High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941-1945 during World War II as a Machinist Mate First Class aboard the USS Akutan. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, and Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 3 stars.

Mr. Kobasic worked as a tool and die maker at Nelson Stud/TRW in Elyria for over 30 years before retiring.

He was a member of the Church of St. Peter in Lorain.

Edward enjoyed spending family time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening, dominos, camping, golf, and was an avid Cleveland Indians and Browns fan.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Katherine A. Kobasic (nee Lombardi), children Sister Pamela Kobasic, I.H.M., of Monroe, MI, David A. Kobasic (Kathleen) of Brunswick, Christine Backo (Richard) of Bedford, Edward T. Kobasic, Jr. (Beth) of Collierville, TN, Richard A. Kobasic, (Jeanette Manley) of Amherst, Robert Kobasic (Deborah) of Olmsted Falls, and Dena Kobasic of Brecksville, 19 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, sisters Evelyn DiLuciano (Eusabio) of Lorain and Elaine Niehenke (Arnold) of Olmsted Falls. He was preceded in death by his son Martin Kobasic in 2013 (survived by Mary Foor), parents Martin and Anna Kobasic (nee Lukenic), brothers Martin, John, Robert, and Richard Kobasic, and sisters Stella, Dorothy, and Margaret Kobasic, and Mary Ann Simko.

The family will receive friends Sunday 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor, will officiate. Private family burial services will be Tuesday in Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
