Peter P. Galanic, 84, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of Peter P. Galanic Peter P. Galanic, age 84, of Lorain, passed away at his residence on Sunday March 30th, 2014.

He was born in Lorain on June 27, 1929 and remained a life long resident of the city. Pete was a graduate of Lorain High School.

He was a veteran of the United States Army where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Specialist 3 attached to the 573rd Engineer Company; he was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Galanic had been employed as a production assistant for the Fruehauf Trailer Company in Avon Lake. Following the company’s move out of Ohio, he worked as a professional drummer with bands that performed at the Aquamarine Restaurant in Avon Lake and other venues along the northcoast. He served as the Secretary/Treasurer for the local professional musician’s union and also offered drum lessons to aspiring musicians throughout the area.

A parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain, he is survived by his daughter Sandra Zawalski (Michael) of North Royalton, grandchildren Rebecca and Mark also of North Royalton, and by his sister Mary Ann Logar of Lorain.

Mr. Galanic was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth “Betty” Galanic (nee Rottari) in 2008, by his son Peter P. Galanic, II, by his parents Dominik and Amalia (nee Pogadi) Galanic, by brothers Nicholas and Dominic Galanic, and by his sister Amalia “Nellie” McNoskey.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue with Reverend Craig Hovanec, pastor of the parish presiding. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park where joint military honors will be conducted by VFW Post # 451 and American Legion Post # 30 both of Lorain.
