Wanita M. Ward, 74, Enjoyed Camping with Grandchildren

Wanita M. Ward (nee Durfee), 74,of Lorain, died Wednesday May 7, 2014 in the intensive care unit at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain after a short illness.

She was born July 27, 1939 in The Plains, Ohio and had resided in the Lorain area since 1977.

Wanita worked as a clerk at Rite Aid in Lorain and Sheffield Lake retiring in 2000.

She was a past member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain and a member of the United Food & Commercial Workers Union Local #880.
Wanita was a big Elvis Presley fan and enjoyed camping, fishing, cooking, and bingo and family get-togethers. Her grandchildren were her life and she enjoyed taking them camping.

She is survived by her children Linda Cosari (John) of North Ridgeville and David Roark of Lorain, 12 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, sister Sally Kennedy (David) of Lorain and brothers Hickory Durfee (Maryann) of Mentor and Edwin Durfee of Cleveland. She was preceded in death by her husband Philip Ward in 1994, daughter Judith D. James in 2007, father Don Durfee and mother Garnet Aikens (nee Phillips).

The family will receive friends Friday 6-8 pm at Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:00 am in the funeral chapel. Burial will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery in Avon.
