George J. Cochran, 91, Veteran of the United States Navy

George was a veteran of the United States Navy where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Ship’s Cook First Class aboard the USS New Mexico and the USS Roberts. He spent countless hours volunteering at the Louis Stokes Cleveland V.A. Medical Center, the Brecksville Veterans Administration Hospital, and the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky. He was a member of Mullen-Murray Post # 451 of the VFW as well as a Life Member of Louis Paul Proy Chapter # 20 of the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Cochran was employed as a bricklayer with Bricklayers’ Local # 34. He retired in 1987 following a career that spanned more than a half century in the construction industry
A member of the Czarnecki Club, he was a long-time parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-eight years Helen (nee Jakobowski), sons Gregory (Laura) of Richfield, and Gary (Jennifer) of Orlando, Florida, daughter Genie Wachholz of Amherst, three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. He also leaves brothers Charles and William Cochran and sisters Theresa Gravelyn and Dorothy Jindraziak.
George was preceded in death by his son George J. Cochran, II in infancy, daughters Carol Jean Smith, and twins Patricia and Mary Cochran also both in infancy, granddaughter Stacey Harrington, parents Charles and Anna (nee Nelis) Cochran, brother Fred Cochran, and sisters Mary Ann Cochran and Kay Gabreski.
Family funeral services and entombment will be held in Calvary Cemetery.
