Photo of Margaret Lorain: Margaret E. “Peggy” Gordon (nee Miller), 68, of Lorain, died Wednesday May 28, 2014at Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a battle with lung cancer.

She was born December 11, 1945 in Buffalo, New York and had resided in Lorain since the early 1960’s. As a youth and teenager, she and her family traveled the world as both of her parents served in the US Army.

Peggy graduated from Lorain Admiral King High School in 1963. She worked at Central Trust in Lorain as a teller and at First Investment Company in Lorain as a loan officer.

Peggy was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain where she served on the Food Pantry board, was a member of the Women’s Guild and volunteered with the church fish fry. She volunteered at St. Stanislaus School and St. Mary School in the cafeteria and library and was a tutor for the Lorain Public Library Project Light program. Peggy was active with the American Cancer Society helping with the flower sale and donating to the Relay for Life.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, spending time with her family and family vacations. She was always around to lend and ear for her grandchildren and talk with them.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years David Gordon, children Scott Gordon (Patty) of Lorain, Michele Sturgeon (Tim) of Lorain and Christine Bandersky (Jay) of Amherst, grandchildren Christopher Gordon, Amanda Haney (Chris), Jeffrey Sturgeon (Jessica Shenker), Lauren Sturgeon, Ryan Sturgeon and Matthew Bandersky, 3 great grandchildren and sister Susan Kucbel (Ron) of Lorain. She was preceded in death by her parents Morley and Joan Miller (nee Arnold) and brother Mike Miller.

The family will receive friends Friday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 310 8th St, Lorain. The Rev. Daniel Divis, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
