Manuela Rosario, 90, Beloved Seamstress and Grandmother

Photo of Manuela Rosario Manuela Rosario, (nee Diaz), age 90, of Lorain, passed away on Tuesday June 10th, 2014 at Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland following a brief illness.

The matriarch of a family of five generations, she was born in Kansas City, Kansas on June 20, 1923 and had been a resident of Lorain since her childhood.

Mrs. Rosario was most recently employed as seamstress for the Ravenna Casket Company in Lorain. Previously, she had been employed as a seamstress by the Joseph and Feiss Company as well as the S. Weitz Clothing Company. During World War II, she had also worked as a production assistant for the National Tube Company.

Manuela was a parishioner of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish in Lorain and was a member of the Guadalupe Society there; she was also a past member of the Mexican-American Citizens’ Club.

In her free time she enjoyed hosting gatherings in her home as well as following the activities of her grandchildren. Additional interests included sewing, playing dominos, and playing Rummy.

She is survived by daughters Susan Sciulli (Jim) of Sheffield Lake, and Carol Bires (Nicholas) of Amherst, along with Jeanette Walker, Nancy Sheaves, and Sonia Rosario all of Lorain. She also leaves her son Eusebio Rosario, Jr. of Lorain, ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and one great, great granddaughter. Additional survivors include her sisters Consuelo Smith of Avon Lake and Elvira “Vido” Diaz of Amherst.

Mrs. Rosario was preceded in death by her husband Eusebio Rosario, Sr. in 1993, by her son Carlos M. “Beanie” Rosario in 2001, by her grandson Joseph Michael Walker, great granddaughter Aviah Rodriguez, and by brothers Peter, Salvador “Zibby”, and Frank “Kiko.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4 until 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. in St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish, 2143 Homewood Drive. The Reverend John C. Retar, pastor of the parish will serve as celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
