Elizabeth Bruce, 91, Family-oriented Loving Wife & Mother

Photo of Elizabeth  Bruce Elizabeth “Betty” Bruce, (nee Kopasz), age 91, passed away in the early morning hours of June 30, 2014 while a resident of the Arden Courts Assisted Living Center of Parma.

She was born in Hungary on February 26, 1923 and immigrated to the United States along with her family at the age of two.

Betty was a graduate of Lorain High School and went on to attend the Lorain Business College. During the latter stages of World War II she had been employed as a civilian administrative liaison for the U.S. Armed Forces.

She attended St. Peter United Church of Christ in Amherst, Ohio. She was extremely family-oriented and enjoyed walking in her free time as well as dining out when circumstances permitted.

She is survived by her daughters Vicki Verlei and her husband Paul “Sonny” residing in Middleburg Heights, along with Holly Prokop and her husband Steve who reside in Birmingham, Alabama. Betty also leaves grandchildren Heather Gottlieb and her husband Geoff, Michelle Kane-Sutton and her husband Andy, Steve Prokop and his wife Amanda, Christopher Kane and his wife Kristin, Paul M. Verlei and his wife Sherelle and Donald Verlei and his wife Torrie. Additional survivors include her great grandchildren Alek, Noah, and Lily, her sister Joan Reber residing in Elyria, and her brother Steve Kopasz who lives in Pueblo, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Bruce in 1999, by her parents Steve and Mary Kopasz, and by her sister Marge Sabo.

Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Reverend David Plant, Interim Pastor of St. Peter United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
