Donald Bischoff, 78, Ohio National Guard Veteran

Photo of Donald  Bischoff Donald W. Bischoff, age 78, of Amherst Township, passed away on the morning of Saturday July 12, 2014 while a resident of the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph. He was born on June 24, 1936 in Lorain and had been a resident of Amherst Township for the past 42 years. Previously, he had been a resident of both Sheffield Village and Lorain.

Don was a graduate of Brookside High School He went on to study business at The Ohio State University.

A veteran of the Ohio National Guard, Mr. Bischoff spent his entire business career working as a salesman in the building materials industry. Prior to his retirement in 2011, he had been employed for seventeen years by the Mack Lumber Company in Valley City. He had previously worked for ABM in Elyria as well as the National Gypsum Company in Lorain.

Don enjoyed a variety of interests. He was proud to have constructed his own home and also dedicated a good quantity of his free time to the restoration and maintenance of his 1961 Thunderbird convertible. In addition, he enjoyed working in his yard as well as tackling home repair and fix-it projects.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Patricia (nee Sweeney), and daughter Debbie of Amherst. He was preceded in death by his father Carl W. Bischoff in 1991 and by his mother Opal (nee Squires) Bischoff in 2001.

Friends may call Wednesday July 16th from 11:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 12:00 noon in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Reverend Lawrence N. Martello, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
