Enrique "Henry" Ramirez, 87, U.S. Air Force Veteran

Enrique “Henry” Ramirez, 87 of Lorain, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2014 in Avon Oaks Caring Community, Avon following a lengthy illness.

He was born July 7, 1927 in Lorain and he was a lifelong resident. Mr. Ramirez retired as a mill wright in the blast shop of U. S. Steel Lorain Works in 1986. He worked there for 42 years. He served in the United States Air Force in Guam during World War II.

Henry was a member a member of St. Frances Cabrini Parish, Lorain, the United States Steel Workers Local 1104 Lorain and the Saint Lad’s Club, Lorain. He was a president of the Southview High School Booster Club and was the manager of Lorain Indians class F baseball team. Henry enjoyed traveling and making furniture. He could fix anything. He has a quick with and enjoyed playing practical jokes.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 63 Years Isabel (née Maltos) Ramirez; daughter Jean (Richard) Florell of Orlando, Florida; sons Richard (Roxanne) Ramirez of Lorain and Anthony (Raeleen) Ramirez of Amherst; sister Maria Munoz of Lorain; brothers Joseph Ramirez of Elyria and Maximino Ramirez, Jr. of Scquin, Texas.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents Maximino and Maria (née Silva) Ramirez; sons Frederick Ramirez and Edward Ramirez; sisters Mary Jacinto, Hermine Montez and Berta Harmon and brothers Frederick, Charles and Jessie Ramirez.

His family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st St., South Lorain. His funeral will be Thursday with closing prayers in the funeral home at 10 AM then Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Frances Cabrini Parish, 2143 Homewood Drive and Grove Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Father John C. Retar, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Disabled American Veteran Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20 will conduct military honors.
