Harry S. Scroggs, 84, Avid Sportsman
Harry S. "Stan" Scroggs, 84, of Lorain passed away on Monday, September 1, 2014 at his home following a brief illness.Mr. Scroggs was born in Baltimore, MD on March 7, 1930, the son of the late Harry B. and Mava B. (nee Hoffman) Scroggs. He was a member of the Class of 1950 graduating from Polytechnic Institute in Baltimore, MD. He served in the US Navy.
He retired as an engineer from Star Builders in Amherst in 1992 and had worked at the former American Shipbuilding for 10 years and the former Trace Environmental in Amherst for 20 years.
Mr. Scroggs was a member of S.A.R. (Sons of the American Revolution) and the Black River Historical Society. He enjoyed gardening and genealogy and was an avid sportsman, especially enjoying hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Joan E. (nee Fox) Scroggs, daughters Melissa A. (Gary) Jones of Silver Spring, MD, Melinda J. (Michael) Lawrentz, of Ashland, son David W. (Lori) Scroggs of Olmsted Twp, grandchildren Allison (Jason) Barnhart, Samantha (Justin) Lyons, Jerich Scroggs, Juliana Scroggs, Elizabeth Lawrentz, 3 great grandchildren and half sister Bertha Ruffing of Townson, MD.
Services were conducted privately by his grandson-in-law Pastor Jason Barnhart. Burial was in Ridge Hill Memorial Park with full military honors provided jointly by The Veterans Of Foreign Wars Post 451 and the American Legion Post 30.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, North Regional Office, 10501 Euclid Ave.,. Cleveland, Ohio 44106-2204.
