George A. Smith Jr., 80, Will be Deeply Missed

He was born April 21, 1934 in Webb, MS, and lived most of his life in Lorain.
George was a machinist in the bar mill of U.S. Steel retiring in 1996 after 42 years. He belongs to Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, the Lorain Auxiliary Police, past member of Fraternal Order of Police, and enjoyed boxing the martial arts.
He is survived by his wife of 5 years, Joy (nee Townsend), sons Neil (Sandra) Smith of Wooster, and Greg Smith of Lorain, a daughter Gwen Smith of Lorain, and step-daughter Amy McCown of Lorain, along with 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, Step-mother Essie Smith, and several brothers and sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Ellamae Smith, a daughter Kathryn Sims in 2012, and several brothers and sisters.
Friends may call Sunday from 4-8 p.m. in Reichlin-Cooley Funeral Home, 2920 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday September 8, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Pastor John Jacobs will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
