William H. Kretchman, 88, U.S. Navy Veteran

Photo of William H. Kretchman William H. Kretchman, 88, of Lorain passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at his home following a long illness.

Mr. Kretchman was born in Akron on November 19, 1925, the son of the late Henry and Marie (nee Knoch) Kretchman. He was a member of the Class of 1943 at Garfield High School and took several classes at local colleges.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WW II. He attended First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain.

Mr. Krtechman had been employed as the general superintendant of construction for the Land Development Company, building war housing on Lorain's east side and was then employed by R. E. Werner Engineering Co. He worked the majority of his career as a senior engineer with GM in Elyria retiring in 1986 followiing 24 years of service.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 30, past Commander of VFW in Springfield Twp,, F & A.M. Black River Lodge #786, Knights Templar, Blue Lodge, Grotto, former Assistant District Commissioner of Firelands Council of Boy Scouts of America, Elyria Gyro International (two term president), Governor District 1 Gyro International and served as president of Lorain Toastmasters.

Mr. Kretchman is survived by his daughter Rebecca (Woodrow) Browne of Durango, CO, his son Daniel E Krtechman of Roslindale, MA, and grandchildren Allison Browne, William Powell Browne and Amanda Browne.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn M. (nee Noonan) Kretchman and several siblings.

Friends may call on Sunday, Sepetember 21, 2014 from 4-6 p.m. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.

Funeral services will be Monday, September 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Jimmy Madsen, pastor of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating.

Burial will follow at the Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, with full military honors provided jointly by the American Legion Post 30 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 451.

The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Mercy-New Life Hospice, c/o Mercy Foundation, 3600 Kolbe Road, Lorain 44053 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
