Ben D. Sokol, 89, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of Ben D. Sokol Ben D. Sokol, 89, of Lorain passed away at his home on Saturday, September 20, 2014, following a long illness.

Mr. Sokol was born in Akron on June 22, 1925, the son of the late Frank and Sylvia (nee Cramer) Sokol. He was a graduate of Canton Lehman High School, Class of 1943, and received his bachelor's degree from The University of Akron in 1949.

He was a veteran paratrooper in the US Army with the 101st Airborne Division during WW II. He received the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater ribbon with a bronze star, Good Conduct medal and the WW II Victory Medal.

Mr. Sokol, a successful building contractor, founded Perfection Builders. He was a Life Master in the Duplicate Bridge Club and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne (nee Sperling) Sokol, to whom he was married, on December 18, 1949. Also surviving are his daughter, Cindy Sokol, of Lorain, and son, Steven (Marlina) Sokol, of Tampa, FL.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sally Hagen.

Graveside Services will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Rittman, with full military honors on Friday, November 21, 2014, at 11:00 a.m.

The family suggest memorial contributions may be made to Agudath B'nai Israel Synagogue, 1715 Meister Rd., Lorain, OH 44053-2411.
