John E. Srawley, lll, 21, Upstanding Firelands High School Grad

Photo of John E.  Srawley, lll John E. Srawley, III, age 21, of Henrietta Township, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Monday September 22nd, 2014.

Born in Fort Collins, Colorado on May 25, 1993, John was a 2011 graduate of Firelands High School and was the recipient of the Rotary International S.T.R.I.V.E. scholarship that year. He later attended Kent State University.

While a student at Firelands, John was a member of the varsity basketball team and also excelled as a pitcher on the varsity baseball team. He was a three time letterman in baseball where he also received All-County recognition. He had formerly played for the North Coast Vipers Elite Baseball Club.

A parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, John was known for his kind and gentle spirit. He had previously been active as a volunteer with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization.

Survivors include his mother Suzanne (James) Strader of Henrietta Township, his father John E. Srawley, Jr. residing in Pitkin, Colorado, and his brother Dylan Srawley of Henrietta Township. Additional survivors include his maternal grandmother Kathleen “Katie” Wood (nee Conley) of Elyria, aunts Christine (Kenneth) Kowalski of North Ridgeville, Stephanie Selloni of Bayville, New York, and Jane (Jere) Potter of Fort Collins, Colorado, his uncle Adam V. (Staci) Wood, Jr. residing in Texas, his companion Ashley Muscari of East Liverpool, Ohio, six cousins, step-brother Jimmy (Jennifer) Strader of Wakeman, and step-sister Devin (Jim) Paller of Amherst.

John was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Adam V. “Butch” Wood, Sr. in 2013, by his paternal grandparents Dr. John E. Srawley and Helene (nee Hill) Srawley both in 1988, and by his uncle Anthony Wood in infancy.

Visitation will be Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral chapel; a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive., Amherst. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
