Nicholas A. DiSilvester, 79, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of Nicholas A. DiSilvester Nicholas A. DiSilvester, 79, of Lorain, died Thursday October 16, 2014 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain.

He was born September 17, 1935 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Nick graduated from Lorain High School in 1953 and served with the US Army for two years and was stationed in Germany. He graduated from the Cleveland Engineering Institute in 1958.

Nick worked as a machinist at Nordson Corporation in Amherst for 38 years retiring in 1999. Nick also served as the union representative and was active in union negotiations.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, a life member of VFW Post 1662 in Amherst, a life member of AMVETS Post #47 in Lorain, a member of American Legion #118 in Amherst, a member of Italian American Veterans Post #1 in Lorain and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1442 in Amherst.

Nick enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, casino trips and traveling to Las Vegas and St. Martin with his close friends.

He is survived by his wife whom he celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary on September 19th Audrey B. DiSilvester (nee Beko), daughters Nicole “Nikki” Ortiz and Alecia DiSilvester, both of Lorain, grandchildren Amber Ortiz, Devin Roark and Zaqary Bramble, great grandchildren Rylend Johnson and Zane Ortiz and brothers Dominic DiSilvester and Joseph DiSilvester, both of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his parents Nicola DiSilvestre in 1970 and Mariann DiSilvestre (nee Trubiano) in 1992 and brother John DiSilvester in 1966.

The family will receive friends Sunday 4-7 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Additional viewing will be held Monday 10:00 am until the time of the funeral mass at 10:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Way, Amherst. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
