Owen "Al" Parsons, 97, Retired Teacher

Photo of Owen Owen "Al" Parsons, 97, of Lorain passed away Thursday morning, October 16, 2014 at Mercy New Life Hospice of St. Joseph in Lorain following a brief illness.
Mr. Parsons was born in Parsons, WV on September 25, 1917, the son of the late Bascom B. and Rosa Lee (nee Willison) Parsons.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School, 1933, from Davis Elkins College with a bachelor's in education and a master's degree from West Virginia University.
A teacher for 35 years, Mr. Parsons retired from teaching in the Lorain City Schools in 1983. He spent most of his teaching career at Whittier, Admiral King and then Lorain High School.
In West Virginia, he was active in the 4H Club as a member and leader, enjoyed sports especially golf, bowling and tennis. He loved gardening and was an avid bridge player. His family was the most important part of his life, and telling stories, jokes and playing games with them always brightened his day.
A longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Lorain; was an active member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church.
Mr. Parsons is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan L. (nee Groves) Parsons, daughter Mary Lee (Don) Yanoski of Arlington, TX, son David A. (Carol) Parsons of Goodyear, AZ, 3 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 19, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in the Cornerstone UM, 2949 West River Road, Elyria, with Pastor Chris Lalonde, officiating.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Coronerstone UMC in his memory.
