Joseph M. Tony, 83, U.S. Air Force Veteran
Joseph M. Tony, 83 of Lorain, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2014 in Ames Hospice, Westlake following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 3, 1931 in Lorain. Joe was a lifelong resident of Lorain. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, earning the Korean Service Metal.
Joe retired in 1993 from the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant. He worked there for 37 years. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 425, Lorain and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mullen Murray Post 451 of Lorain. Joe enjoyed playing sports, he played basketball, soft ball and was an avid bowler. He also was a great cook and baker. Joe also enjoyed camping with his family and traveling to casinos.
He will be dearly missed by his sons Michael J. (Jeannie) Tony of Lorain and Patrick W. (Char) Tony of Elyria; daughters Terry A. (Otis) Bynum of Brownstown, Michigan and Susan L. (David) Kozuria of Lorain and his sister Susan Humphrey of Lorain.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years Catherine T. Tony (née Deagan) in 2002; son Kevin Paul Tony in 1962; daughter Kathleen Marie Tony in 1972; parents Samuel and Katherine (née Drvodelich) Tony and a brother Stanley Tony .
His family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain. His funeral service will be Wednesday at 10 AM in the funeral home. Very Rev. Paul J. Monkowsky, Pastor of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Orthodox Church will officiate. Buried will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, with military honors by the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, Lorain.
