Stanley A. Luczkowski, 89, U.S. Navy Veteran

Photo of Stanley A. Luczkowski Stanley A. “Curly” Luczkowski, age 89, of Lorain, passed away on the morning of October 31, 2014.

He was born in Lorain on September 12, 1925 and remained a life-long resident of the city. Curly was a 1944-A graduate of Lorain High School. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy; he fulfilled duty assignments as a Seaman First Class aboard the USS Presque Isle, the USS Fall River, and the USS San Marcos. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the American Area Ribbon. Mr. Luczkowski was a charter member of Amvets Post # 47 in Lorain.

Curly had been employed as a rigger in Central Maintenance at U.S. Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works. A member of United Steelworkers Local 1104, he retired in 1986 following thirty-nine years of service with the steel producer.

Mr. Luczkowski was a parishioner of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish. An avid basketball fan, and member of the Czarnecki Club, he enjoyed bowling, fishing, boating, hunting, and trapping in his free time. For thirty-one years he and his wife also looked forward to spending time at their summer residence in Marblehead.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years Irene (nee Olszak), by his son Dale (Kathryn) of Lorain, and by daughters Georgeann (Paul) Burrelli of Lorain and Cindy (Dennis) Grove residing in Raleigh, North Carolina. He also leaves five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, along with his brother Frank (Anne) Luczkowski of South Amherst, and his sister Frances (Lyle) Stursa residing in North Ridgeville.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Anna (nee Winczkowicz) Luczkowski and by his brother Chester .

Visitation will be Monday November 3rd from 4 until 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Additional visitation will be observed in St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish, 2143 Homewood Drive on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Reverend John C. Retar, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the officers and members of American Legion Post # 30 and Mullen-Murray Post # 451 of the VFW.
