Iris Violet Gonzalez, 67, Loved Working with Kids

Photo of Iris Violet Gonzalez Iris Violet Gonzalez (née Soto),67 of Lorain, passed away, Monday, November 3, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family after a 15 year illness with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born November 9, 1946 in Utuado, Puerto Rico. Iris came to Lorain as a child. She was a graduate of Lorain High School Class of 1965.

Iris was employed with the Lorain City Schools as a Teacher’s Aid. Also, Iris and her husband Efrain owned and operated Gonzalez Construction of Lorain for over 24 years.

Iris was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain. She loved working with kids, collected donations for the American Cancer Society and volunteered at school events and she was an avid walker. Her favorite activity was spending time with her 17 grandchildren and one great grandson.

She will be deeply missed by her husband of 46 years, Efrain Gonzalez Sr.; daughters Maria Magdalena Gonzalez-Soto (Fiancé William) Middletown, Connecticut and Dora Iris Matesic (William Jr.) of Amherst; sons Efrain Gonzalez Jr. (Christina) of Amherst, and Steven Michael Gonzalez Sr. (Fiancé Angela) of Lakewood; grandchildren, Mathew M., Isabel, Melanie, Mathew B., Marlaina, William III, Brendan, Devin, Korbin, Efrain III, Antonio, Mikayla, Eveyana, Steven Jr. Carlito, Allison, Esteban and Great Grand-son Jayen; her siblings, Nelida (Luis), Lillian (Felipe), Edwin (Nerieda), Ana (Rafael), Domingo Jr., Dianilda (Paul), Edivia (William Sr.), Efrain (Kim), Sonia, Sylvia (Franklin), Rolando, Ricardo (Terri) and Alicia (Doug); 20 nephews and 28 nieces.

Iris was preceded in death by her parents Isabel Soto Medina and Domingo Soto Sr. and sisters, Sonia Soto and Ana Irizarry.

Her family will receive friends on Thursday, from 4 to 8 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain. Friends may also call Friday from 8:30 AM until time of 9:30 AM Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Father William A. Thaden Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
