Helen A. Hurley, 91, Will be Dearly Missed

Helen A. Hurley (nee Babics), 91, of Lorain, died Friday November 7, 2014 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home.

She was born December 26, 1922 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Helen worked as an assembler at Lorain Products for 22 years retiring in 1987.

She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain where she served as church Sacristant for over 30 years. Helen was a Eucharistic Minister and took communion to nursing homes and the sick and shut-ins. She was a member of the church Marian Guild, past member of the Legion of Mary and a member and past president of the Secular Franciscan Order. For many years, she would visit nursing homes to lead the rosary prayer.

She is survived by her daughters Adele Ball of San Diego, California and Carol (Michael) Brewer of South Amherst, grandchildren Eric (Barbara) Ball of Buena Vista, California, Stacey Ostrander of Amherst and Barbara (Rodney) Leger of Enterprise, Alabama, grandson-in-law Robert Ostrander of California and great grandchildren Meghan (Kody) Ealy, Terah Ostrander and Mackenzie Leger. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Rose Babics (nee Szabo) brothers John and Alex Babics and sisters Ethel Withrow, Mary Balko, Margaret Docs and Rose Ward.

The family will receive friends Tuesday 4-7 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain where the Secular Franciscan Order will pray the rosary Tuesday at 4:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Richard Hudak, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
