Agnes M. Schmetzer, 104, Avid Gardener
Agnes M. Schmetzer, (nee Gonas), age 104, of Avon, passed away Sunday November 16, 2014 while under the care of Grace Hospice.
She was born in Lorain on May 12, 1910 and had been a resident of Avon since 1968. Previously, she had been a long-time resident of Lorain.
Agnes was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Avon and was also a member of the Altar & Rosary Society there. She had previously been a member of Slovak Catholic Sokols Wreath # 111. Mrs. Schmetzer was an avid gardener who also enjoyed sewing in her free time.
She is survived by her sons Hubert J. Yepko, DDS (Mercedes) residing in Atkinson, North Carolina and Delbert R. Yepko (Sandra) residing in Grafton. She also leaves step-daughters Elinore Rieth and Evelyn Coon along with four grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Agnes was preceded in death by her first husband John Yepko in 1964, by her second husband Bernard Schmetzer in 1985, by her daughter Alice Vines in 1985, by grandson Michael Yepko in 1983, by her parents John and Mary (nee Botchick) Gonas, and by brothers John George, Albert, and Edward.
Friends may call Thursday November 20th from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Reverend C. Thomas Cleaton, pastor of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
