Elizabeth Sarady, 89, Loved the Arts
Elizabeth Betty Sarady, age 89, passed away on the morning of Thursday December 4th, 2014 while a resident of the caring community at Avon Oaks Nursing Home.
She was born in Lorain on March 22, 1925; Betty graduated from Lorain High School and went on to attend the Cooper School of Art.
She had been employed as a claims adjuster for the Veterans Administration Regional Office in Cleveland for thirty-five years. She retired in 1979.
Miss Sarady was currently a parishioner of St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Lorain. She was also a member of the former St. Michael’s Byzantine Church where she volunteered countless hours of her time to fund-raising projects for the parish.
Betty was an accomplished organist and a devotee of the performing arts. For a number of years she served as an usher during performances of the Cleveland Opera Company. In her younger years she enjoyed playing tennis as well as ice skating.
She enjoyed a myriad of hobbies including taking care of her pet cats, following the Cleveland Indians, and watching performances of the Ice Capades and Ice Follies.
Survivors include her sister-in-law Frances Sarady of Avon Lake, along with nephews Donald Bajcer (Pat) and Steve Bajcer (Maureen), and nieces Frances Druesedow (Charlie), Cynthia Sarady, and Tina Wolfe. In addition, she leaves great nephews Dale Bajcer (Michele), Charlie Druesedow, Alex Sarady, and Steve Bajcer, great nieces Kim Bajcer Kelly (Patrick), Carrie (Druesedow) O’Dell (Eric), and Emily Wolfe, along with great great nieces Maire, Sophia, Fiona, Amelia, Lizzie, and Anna.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Elizabeth (nee Magyar) Sarady, by her brother Joseph, by her step-sister Rose Bajcer, by her niece Sandra Dorsz, and by her great nephew Ryan Kelly.
Friends may call Monday December 8th from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Panachida services at 11:00 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. The Divine Liturgy will follow at 11:30 in St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church. 2711 West 40th Street. The Very Reverend Nicholas Rachford, Pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Betty’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Mindi and her staff in the Porter Pavilion at Avon Oaks for the loving care that they provided during her residence there as well as the services of Pathways Hospice.
