Raymond H. Fischer, 89, U.S. Navy Veteran
Raymond H. Fischer, 89, of Lorain passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain while in the company of his loving family.Mr. Fischer was born in Lorain on December 5, 1925, a son of the late Norman A. and Helen (nee Lynch) Fischer. He was a member of the graduating class of 1944 A of Lorain High School.
He served in the US Navy during WW II earning the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal with 5 Stars and the Philippine Liberation Medal with 1 star.
He was a member of Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Lorain.
He worked as a electric power foreman at US Steel in Lorain for 42 years retiring in 1984. He also owned/operated his own electrical contracting business for more than 15 years, drove for the former Schwartz Funeral Home, worked at American Shipbuilders and Todd's Boathouse.
In 1967 he won the renowned Sohio Jackpot at Fred Hunger's Gas Station. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, raising flowers, hunting, fishing, bird watching, storyteller, feeding the squirrels, and helping his neighbors. He was an avid John Wayne Fan and loved W.W.II history. The most enjoyable time of his life, he spent with his family and especially his granddaughters.
Mr. Fischer is survived by his wife of 69 years, Emma S. (nee Pataky) Fischer, daughter Debra L. (Thomas) Temerario, son Gary R. (Andrea) Fischer of Lorain, granddaughters Rebecca Temerario and Natalie Fischer.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother William Fischer.
Friends may call on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.
Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 in the funeral home at 11:00 am with with Rev. Mary Carson, pastor of the Church of the Redeemer, officiating.
Burial with full military honors will follow in the Ridge Hill Memorial Park Amherst Township.
