Mitchell Milovich, 97, Staff Sergeant in 157th Infantry of the 45th Division

Photo of Mitchell  Milovich Mitchell “Mitch” Milovich, 97, of Lorain passed away Friday, March 7, 2014 in New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph Lorain, following a brief illness.

He was born November 7, 1916 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and came to Lorain at the age of two. He graduated from Lorain High School in 1934.

Mr. Milovich retired in 1979 from the shipping department of U. S. Steel Lorain Works. He worked there for 47 years. During World War II he served in the Army as a staff sergeant in the 157th infantry of the 45th division. He earned 4 bronze stars from Anzio, Italy thru Southern France to the liberation of Dachau concentration camp in Germany.

Mitch was a member of Saint George Serbian Orthodox Church, Lorain, United Steel Workers, 1104 Lorain and the Lorain Slovenian Home. He was a life member of the V. F. W. Post 451 and the AMVETS Post 47 both in Lorain. Mitch was an avid golfer and a former member of the Oberlin Country Club. He loved to travel with his wife. He was a Notre Dame and Browns football fan.

Mitch was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years Bertha S. Milovich (née Brletic) in 2011; his Parents Eli and Sophia (née Tomasevich) Milovich; brothers Nick, Milos, Mike , Sam and Eli Milovich and his sisters Ann Hunyad, Nellie Molas and Kay Innocenti.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

His funeral service officiated by Very Reverend Father Aleksa Pavichevich of Saint George Serbian Orthodox Church will be private with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain with military honors.

His family suggests memorial contributions to Saint George Serbian Orthodox Church, 3335 Grove Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44055.
