Milan John Sebo, Wildlife Artist

Photo of Milan John Sebo Milan John Sebo was born in Lorain, on May 4, 1923, to Rose and John Sebo. He remained a lifelong resident of the area.

While in school, Milan became well-known for his artistic talent. A few years after graduating from Lorain High School, Class of 1940B, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. A W.W.II Veteran, he served in the 2nd Radio Intelligence Platoon as sergeant, in the 5th Amphibian Corp. as a B.A.R. man, and as a combat artist in the Pacific Theater. Milan was honorably discharged, after (30) months of active duty, he returned home. He met and married "Mil," the woman that would become his wife of (63) years.

Milan went to school at night, while working and raising a family. He first attended Cooper School of Art in Cleveland. Later, Cooper used Milan's paintings to promote enrollment in advertising their school. Next, pursuing a degree in Engineering, he continued to go to night school in Cleveland. Milan's formula for success was always hard work and education.

When he decided to take early retirement from his Senior Staff Design Engineering position at the Bendix Corporation in Elyria, he was the holder of (8) US Patents and also patents in Brazil and Japan, in emergency and adaptive braking air valves. Milan had also received an Outstanding Corporate Technical Award from Bendix Corporation (one of ten nationally; of 79,000 employees.

In retirement, Milan began teaching art classes at Lorain County Community College. These classes were also broadcast over the College's television station. However, Wildlife Art became his main focus. He traveled extensively throughout the US and Africa to attend seminars presented by world famous Wildlife Artist. Milan was one of only eighty-six wildlife artist from the US and Canada to attend Robert Bateman's Master Class.

He exhibited his paintings throughout Northern Ohio. Many of these events were one man shows.

Milan felt that by being a member of the community, he should actively participate and contribute. Therefore, the following is a brief overview: PAST PRESIDENT: Bendix Management Club, Brookside High School P.T.A., Sheffield Service Council, Senior Fellowship Club of Lorain. CIVIC: City Councilman, four years, Sheffield Lake, French Creek Water and Sewer District Founder, Lorain County Regional Planning-commission-water pollution committee, Lake Erie Shore Advisory Committee. FRATERNAL: Worshipful Master, Sheffield Masonic Lodge # 628 (60 year member), Worthy Patron, Day Chapter # 479 Order of the Eastern Star. CHURCH: Ordained Elder and Deacon-Presbyterian Church, Clerk of Session, Sunday School Teacher and choir member.

Milan was survived by his daughters Melody Sebo of Lorain, and Linda Glancy of Atlanta, GA; sister Wilma Ames, Vermilion, sisters-in-law, Virginia Regaldo, San Antonio, TX, Sondra Walker, Westlake, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Milan was preceded in death by his wife Mildred (July 2009), his son Gregory (April 2008), his brother Alex (January 1996) and his parents John Sebo and Rose and Christ Vasiloff.

Respecting Milan's wishes, there were no services and no visitation.
