Ruth E. Chonko, 83, Was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain

Photo of Ruth E.  Chonko Ruth E. Chonko (nee Perrault), 83, of Lorain, died Monday January 26, 2015 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a brief illness.

She was born April 2, 1931 in Sandusky and had resided in Lorain most of her life.

Ruth attended Lorain High School and Lorain Business College. Prior to raising her family, she worked at the Tank Plant in Cleveland, Thew Shovel in Lorain, Co-Op Aircraft in San Diego, California and as a supervisor at Kmart in South Lorain.

Ruth was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain where she taught Sunday school and served as the Sunday school superintendent. For over 30 years, she volunteered as a driver for the Meals-on-Wheels program. She served as a Den Mother for Cub Scout Troop #350 and as president of the PTA at Homewood School in Lorain. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, reading, cross stitch, crocheting, gardening, cooking and jazzercise.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years Donald Chonko, daughters Susan (Joseph) Wengryniuk of Georgia and Stephanie (Victor) Takacs of Lorain, grandchildren Kelly (Seth) Sabo, Matthew Chonko, Brian Chonko, Kristen Wengryniuk, Nicholas Takacs, Allison Takacs and Kylie Wengryniuk, great grandson Tristen Sabo and brother Allen Perrault of California. She was preceded in death by her sons Howard and Keith Chonko, parents Joseph and Mamie Perrault (nee Bailey) and sister Blanche Munden.

The family will receive friends Friday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain where funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 am. The Rev. Jimmy Madsen, pastor of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain.
