Sam Farsetti Sr., 84, Was an avid bowler and was inducted into the Lorain Bowling Hall of Fame

Photo of Sam Farsetti Sr. Sam Farsetti Sr., age 84, of Lorain, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Anchor Lodge Nursing Home after succumbing to complications from a fall in his home. He was born February 18, 1930 in Lorain where he had been a lifelong resident.

Sam began working for the Lorain National Tube Company on July 1, 1948; he entered the U.S. Army on March 19, 1951 and was Honorably Discharged on March 05, 1953. Sam, a Purple Heart recipient, was a member of Elmer Johnson Post # 118 of the American Legion in Amherst as well as a member of Italian American Veterans Post # 1 in Lorain.. After serving his country he returned to Lorain to work for the U.S. Steel Company for the next 32 years spending most of his years as Foreman in the B.O.P. Shop. Sam retired from U.S. Steel in 1985 and also retired from Resco Tec in 1998.

Mr. Farsetti was an avid bowler and was inducted into the Lorain Bowling Hall of Fame. Additional interests included fishing, golf and playing poker.

Sam is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice Mae (nee Haley), and by children Jim of Warren Ohio, John (Joyce) of Elyria Ohio, Alice (Bill) Engle of Myrtle Beach South Carolina, Ron (Sharon) of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Sam Jr. of Lorain, and Carol (Tony) Bender also of Lorain. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jimmy and Heather Farsetti of Warren Ohio, and great grandchild Logan Farsetti also of Warren Ohio. Additional survivors include his brother Joe Farsetti of Folly, Alabama and sisters Betty Webber of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Mary Burtze of Elyria. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis Farsetti and Martha (nee Simon) and by his sister Marge Engene who resided in Mobile, Alabama.

Friends may call from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel located at 3224 Broadway Avenue in Lorain. The closing of the visitation will take place at 4:30 p.m. and will include a reading of the obituary and along with a prayer conducted by Father John C. Retar, pastor of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish in Lorain. Military honors, including a rifle salute, will be conducted by the officers and members of the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard and will conclude the service. Cremation arrangements will be handled by the funeral chapel.
