Photo of Brian A. Zilka Brian A. Zilka, 53, of Sheffield Township, died Sunday February 15, 2015 at his home after a short illness and surrounded by his family.

He was born February 10, 1962 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Sheffield Township area resident.

Brian graduated from Clearview High School in 1980. He worked for Laborers Union Local #758 for over 25 years and for Republic Steel in Lorain in the Rolling Mill for 6 years. For a short time, he served as a volunteer Firefighter with the Sheffield Township Fire Department.

Brian was a member of the Croatian Club, Knights of Columbus, Open Hearth Fraternal Club, AMVETS Post #47 and American Legion Post #30, all of Lorain.

He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and playing cards.

He is survived by his children Brian A. Zilka II and Stephanie M. Zilka, grandchildren Noah, Emma, Mason and Kayden Moore, mother Olga Zilka (nee Bailey), sister Cynthia L. VanBuren, nephews Andrew and Grant VanBuren and great niece Stella VanBuren. He was preceded in death by his father Andrew Zilka on November 6, 2013.

The family will receive friends Wednesday 4-8pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N. Ridge Rd, Elyria Township. The Rev. Donald Dunson, pastor, will officiate. Cremation will follow and his ashes will be interred on his father Andrew’s grave at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain at a later date.
