Richard E. Pope, 66, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of Richard E. Pope Richard E. Pope, 66, of Lorain, died Wednesday August 12, 2015 at his home after a long illness.

He was born October 21, 1948 in Lorain and had lived in Lorain most of his life.

Richard served with the US Army as a SP4 during the Vietnam War. He worked as a bridge operator at the Bascule Bridge in Lorain for over 26 years before retiring. He enjoyed playing cards and was a member of St. Peter Parish.

He is survived by his daughter Melissa Hamilton (James) of Lorain, grandchildren Nathan and Sabrina Hamilton, mother Penny Pope (nee Takacs) of Lorain, sister Pegi Beck (Donald) of Westlake and brother Gary Pope of Parma. He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years Madaline C. Pope (nee Fabrizio) in 2008 and father Gilbert Pope.

A private family memorial service will be held. The Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor of St. Peter Parish, will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #20 in Lorain.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain.
