Geraldine V. McCartney, 90, Active in Her Church
Geraldine V. "Judy" McCartney, 90, (nee Cecil) of Lorain passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the Kent Healthcare Center in Kent, OH surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. McCartney was born in Lorain on July 31, 1925, the daughter of the late Jacob R. and Ada L. ( nee Gladman) Cecil. She was a graduate of Lorain High School and the Huron Road School Of Nursing.
She was an active and long-time member of Christian Temple Disciples of Christ in Lorain. She served as a deaconess, helped with the visitation ministry and volunteered for many assignments in the church.
Mrs. McCartney was a registered nurse practicing first at Lorain Community Hospital and then at Allen Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1984.
She is survived by daughters Janice (Stan) Zevorich of Munroe Falls, Debra (John) Caine of Cuyahoga Falls, Nancy McCartney of North Royalton, son David McCartney of Manchester, CT, grandchildren, Natalie Bish, Jennifer Dougherty, Jacob McCartney, Lura Slowinski, Dylan McCartney, Blaine McCartney, Lisa Susner; great grandchildren, Brianna Bish, Taylor Bish, Brayden Dougherty, Ashlyn Dougherty, and Teagan Dougherty,
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert J. McCartney in 1972, brothers, Lyle Cecil and Orlando Cecil; sisters Evelyn Butcher, Rosetta Simpson, Margorie Beech, and Ruth Klier.
Friends may call on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Bradley J. Donahue, pastor of Christian Temple Disciples of Christ, officiating.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township.
