Jorge Gonzalez-Rodriguez, 96, Loved Spending Time With Family

Jorge was born on July 19, 1919 in Utuado, Puerto Rico. He moved to Lorain in 1948 where he lived for the remainder of his life. Early in his life he worked in agriculture and bridge construction in Puerto Rico. A job with Nickle Plate Railroad brought him to Lorain and he retired in landscaping at the age of 75. He loved spending time with family, playing cards and dominos, cooking, gardening, and being physically active. He was a friend to many and loved planning and throwing his annual birthday party. Jorge was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church, Lorain he was a member Crusillo and Holy Name Society.

Jorge is survived by his children, son Paul Gonzalez of Lorain, daughter Migdalia Otero of Ft. Meyer, Florida, daughter-in-law and caretaker, Gloria M. Gonzalez of Lorain; seven grandchildren including Paul, Brittany, David and Joshua Gonzalez; Joe, Paul and Michelle Otero, and Christopher Berlingeri; sixteen great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, four nieces and one nephew.

Jorge is preceded in death by his parents Pablo Gonzalez and Angela Rodriguez granddaughter Jordan Elisabeth Gonzalez. sisters Ida Irene and Blanca Gonzalez, brothers Enrique and Jose Rodriguez, ex-wife Crimilda Rodriguez-Sotomeyer, and longtime companion, Roberta “Holly” Patfield.

His family will receive friends Thursday, November 19th from 4 PM until a Celebration of Life service at 6:30 PM conducted by his grandson, Pastor, Paul A. Gonzalez of Freedom House Church, Amherst at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Ohio. Friends may also call Friday from 8:30 AM until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM at Sacred Heart Chapel, 3401 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. William A. Thaden will be the celebrant. The burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
