Virginia Mae Grunda, 91, Enjoyed Crafts and Crocheting Towels

Photo of Virginia Mae Grunda Virginia Mae “Ginny” Grunda (nee Prill), 91, of Sheffield Lake, died Thursday November 19, 2015 at Safe Haven Elder Care in Avon Lake after a lengthy illness.

She was born September 3, 1924 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Sheffield Lake and Lorain resident.

Virginia graduated from Lorain High School in 1942 and worked at Woolworth in Sheffield Lake as a salesperson, cashier and cook for over 21 years retiring in 1980. She had worked at the store from the day it opened until the day it closed.

She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Sheffield Lake; St. Thomas Ladies Guild, VFW Post #8686 Ladies Auxiliary in Sheffield Lake, St. Ann’s Auxiliary #277, AARP Local #399, the Zipper Club and the FOPA.

Ginny volunteered her time at the Sheffield Lake Community Center helping with food distribution and Meals-on-Wheels; worked the kitchen for the Golden Age Pensioners and worked the election booth for over 35 years. In 1996, she was named Sheffield Lake Woman-of-the-Year. She enjoyed crafts and crocheting towels.

Although Ginny never drove, she had great friends that would pick her up and drive her places. A special thanks to Sue Chapman and Carol Turner for their help.

She is survived by her children Dennis (Maxine) Grunda and Debbie (Joe) Reising, both of Sheffield Lake; grandchildren Paul Reising of Vermilion, Becky (Ron) Rados of Amherst, Joshua (Becca) Grunda of Willowick, Jessica Grunda of Irondale, Alabama and Jacob (Lauren) Grunda of Argo, Alabama; great grandchildren Brittany Reising, Miranda Rados, Charlie Rados, Matthias Grunda and Lillian Grunda; sister Delores Kos of Elyria and sister-in-law RoseMarie Prill of South Amherst. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Grunda in 1990, parents William and Cecelia Prill (nee Mahalsky), brother Bob Prill and sister Lenora Pavlovcic.

The family will receive friends Monday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 am. The Rev. Stephen Shields, pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Sheffield Lake, will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
