William F. McGannon, 86, U.S. Air Force Veteran

Photo of William F. McGannon William F. McGannon, 86, of Lorain, died Wednesday December 2, 2015 at Elmcroft of Lorain after a short illness.

He was born October 7, 1929 in Wheeling, West Virginia and had resided in Lorain most of his life.

William graduated from Central Catholic High School in Wheeling, West Virginia. He served with the US Air Force as an Airman First Class during the Korean War.

William worked as an accountant, boiler operator and instrument repairman at US Steel in Lorain retiring in 1987 after 40 years.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain, a life member of VFW Post #1662 in Amherst and a life member of American Legion Post #1442 in Amherst. He enjoyed golfing and bowling.

He is survived by his sons: Patrick (Loretta) McGannon of Lorain, Daniel McGannon of Alliance, Timothy McGannon of Avon Lake and Michael McGannon of Amherst, grandchildren: Dr. Colleen McGannon O’Malley Ph.D of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Katherine McGannon of Lorain, Lisa McGannon-Shaw of Berea, Daniel McGannon, Jr of Brook Park, Brian McGannon of New York, New York, Christina Dehn of Spokane, Washington and Michael McGannon of Amherst and 8 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years Betty McGannon (nee Bonner), grandson Johnathan McGannon, parents Edward J. and Geraldine McGannon (nee Clifton), sisters Patricia Dean and Dolores McGannon and brother Edward M. McGannon.

The family will receive friends Sunday 2-5 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Additional viewing time will be held Monday from 10:30 am until 11 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 310 8th St, Lorain followed by the mass of Christian Burial Monday at 11:00 am. The Rev. Timothy O’Connor, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
