Virginia M. Maynard, 72, Former Handicapped Person-of-the-Year

Virginia M. Maynard (nee Gluhank), 72, of Lorain, died Saturday December 5, 2015 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain.

She was born March 9, 1943 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Virginia served on Lorain Mayor William Parker’s Advocacy Committee for the Handicapped. In 1975, she was named Handicapped Person-of-the-Year. She volunteered with the Red Cross and enjoyed her pets, growing plants, cross stitch and sewing.

She is survived by her sister Dr. Maryann Thompson of Albuquerque, New Mexico and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard M. Maynard in 2008, parents Michael J. and Mary Gluhank (nee Gargus) and sister Armella Paine.

A private graveside service will be held at Brownhelm Cemetery in Vermilion.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain.
