Joseph J. Kucirek, 74, Avid Golfer
Joseph J. Kucirek, 74, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday January 12, 2016 following a lengthy illness.
He was known and cherished by many, deeply loved by his family and will be missed.
Joseph was born on March 29, 1941 in Lorain and graduated from Lorain High School and Michigan State University. He acquired his love for golf when he helped his parents Emil and Emily build Emerald Valley Country Club in Lorain in the early 1960’s. Joseph proudly carried on his father's nickname “Kooch.” He has been a member of the PGA for 50 years and was known for his putting skills. During that time, Joe has given thousands of golf lessons and has inspired many to develop a love for the game. After retiring from Emerald Valley, he worked at Bobick's Golf Shop and continued to enjoy helping others master their skills at West Pines driving range in Avon. One of his joys in the off season was golfing in southern locations including Hilton Head Island. He regularly attended early mass at St. Peter's Church in Lorain. He was always thoughtful of others, enjoyed cooking for his family, spoiling his dogs and continued to humor all with his quick wit.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years Vanessa S. Kucirek (nee Berens) of Lorain, his son Joseph Kucirek of Amherst, his daughters Kourtney Jo Kucirek of Ashland Ohio and, Kelly Jo Kierpaul (nee Kucirek) of Farmington, Michigan; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, his brother Albert Kucirek of Georgia and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Emil in 1990, mother Emily (nee Zahorec) in 1986 and his sister Marilyn (Kucirek Makruski) Cecil in 2001.
Friends may call Friday Jan. 15th from 3:00-8:00 pm at Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Ave Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday Jan 16th at 11:00 am at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor of St. Peter Parish in Lorain, presiding. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
