Anna C. Zuffa, 94, Loved Cooking for Family and Friends

Photo of Anna C. Zuffa Anna C. Zuffa (nee Jandura), 94, of Lorain, died Monday February 22, 2016 at her home while surrounded by her loving family.

She was born October 11, 1921 in Habovka, Czechoslovakia, emigrated to the United States in 1937 and lived in Gary, Indiana until moving to Lorain in 1947.

Ann worked as a cook and server at the American Slovak Club in Lorain for 58 years. She also worked in the kitchen at the John J. Gluvna Funeral Chapel and Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel during funeral luncheons. She dearly loved her co-workers.

Ann was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain and the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain. She was also an active member of St. Ann Lodge Branch #114, Slovak Catholic Sokols and St. Mary Magdalene Lodge. She served on the board of directors at the American Slovak Club for over 10 years. Ann was thrilled to have been interviewed for the television show Bizarre Foods by host Andrew Zimmern as they featured the Slovak Club’s famous Friday fish fry. Ann later heard from her family in Slovakia as they saw the show on television.

She loved the outdoors and had a green thumb for roses and vegetable gardening. On her very first fishing trip on her son Tom’s boat, she caught a walleye that won a Fish Ohio award. Most of all, she loved her family and loved cooking for her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters Judy Hromada of Lorain and Sharon Salkiewicz (Pat) of Lorain, son Tom Zuffa (Jeanette) of Lorain, grandchildren Trisha Radman (Chris), Michael Salkiewicz (Rebecca), Jessica Gonzalez (Richard), Melissa Deneen (Kevin) and Michelle Minnick (Roger); great grandchildren Lauren Salkiewicz, Christopher & Zachary Radman, Aiden & Addison Salkiewicz, Damien Deneen and Roger Minnick Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Charles Zuffa in 1992, parents Thomas & Cecelia Jandura, a stillborn infant, brother Aloysius Jandura, sister Margaret Jandura and son-in-law William J. Hromada in 1999.

The family will receive friends Wednesday Feb. 24th from 2-4, 6-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. St. Ann Lodge Branch #114 will pray the Rosary Wednesday Feb. 24th at 3:30 pm in the funeral chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday Feb. 25th at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 310 8th St, Lorain. The Rev. Daniel Divis, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
