George Moran, 94, Expert Craftsman

Photo of George Moran George Moran, 94, of Elyria, died Sunday March 6, 2016 at Avon Oaks Nursing Home in Avon after a lengthy illness.

He was born March 19, 1921 in West Hazleton, Pennsylvania and had resided in Elyria most of his life.

George served with the US Navy during World War II as a Machinist Mate First Class aboard LST boats in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

He worked in Industrial Construction as a Union Carpenter with Local #705 in Lorain for 30 years and with Local #212 in Cleveland for 14 years retiring in 1984. Prior to that, he worked as a Stationary Engineer at Thew Shovel in Lorain and at US Steel and the B&O Railroad.

George was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Lorain. He enjoyed puzzles and woodworking and was an expert craftsman with wood products and construction of commercial buildings and homes.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years Marie Moran (nee Breznan), children: Michael Moran (Rhonda) and Mark Moran (Elizabeth), all of Eugene, Oregon; Bill Moran of Elyria, Matthew Moran (Michele) of Amherst, Lisa Knipp of Akron, Philip Moran (Marilee) of Burlington, Wisconsin, Nathan Moran (Barbara) of West Seneca, New York, George Moran (Josie) of Baltimore, Maryland and Jon Moran (Carol) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; 24 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brothers Joseph Moran and Archpriest Michael Moran. He was preceded in death by his daughter Monica Quintein, son James Moran, parents George and Mary Moran (nee Horvat), sisters Mary Dushanko, Helen Meluch and Margaret Marinok, brothers John, Albert and Frank Moran and daughter-in-law Sharon Moran.

The family will receive friends Friday March 11th from 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain where the Parastas Service will be held Friday at 7:30 pm.

Panachida Services will be held Saturday March 12th at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the Divine Liturgy at 10:00 am at St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, 2711 W. 40th St, Lorain.

George’s brother, Archpriest Michael Moran JCD, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #20 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
