Camerina Gutierrez, 94, Enjoyed Cooking Mexican Foods for Her Family and the Community

Photo of Camerina Gutierrez Camerina Gutierrez (nee Ambrosio), 94, of Lorain, died Tuesday March 8, 2016 at the home of her daughter Lori Hritsko while under the care of Cleveland Clinic Hospice.

She was born August 21, 1921 in Kolbe, Kansas and had resided in Lorain since 1950 moving from Mexico City, Mexico.

Camerina sold Avon cosmetics and was named to the President’s Club for top sales in her area.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain, the Guadalupe Society, the Sacred Heart Prayer Group and the Mexican-American Citizens Club.

Camerina influenced the lives of many Mexican families in the area by acting as a nanny for their young children and teens and cooking meals for them in their homes. She enjoyed cooking Mexican foods for her family and the community, crocheting and traveling. She volunteered with the Lorain International Festival many years ago.

She is survived by her children: Camerina Hernandez of St. Louis, Missouri, Martha Gutierrez Ambrosio of San Diego, California, Lori Hritsko (Ron) of Lorain, Rudy Gutierrez (Nancy) of Brunswick, Vincent Gutierrez of Warren, Pennsylvania and Dennis Gutierrez of Oberlin; 23 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; brother Leonard Ambrosio (Lupe) of Texas; sisters Stella Garcia of Elyria and Ophelia Munsell of California; daughter-in-law Maria Gutierrez of Atlanta, Georgia and son-in-law Henry Gonzalez of Amherst. She was preceded in death by her husband Dionisio Gutierrez in 1993, parents Jose & Julia Ambrosio (nee Ramirez), daughters Delia Gutierrez and Sally Gonzalez, sons Jorge and Rick Gutierrez, brothers Arnold, Louis & Martin Ambrosio; sisters Aldemira Volak & Consuelo Cabrera; son-in-law Miguel Hernandez and daughter-in-law Karen Gutierrez.

The family will receive friends Friday March 11th from 4-8 pm in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Additional viewing will be held Saturday March 12th from 9:00 am until the time of the mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave, Lorain.

The Rev. William Thaden, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
