Virginia Mae Findley, 82, Enjoyed Spending Time at Family Cottage on Catawba Island

Photo of Virginia Mae Findley Virginia Mae Findley (née Ellis), 82, a lifelong resident of Lorain, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, April 11, 2016.

She was born on December 10, 1933 in Lorain to Paul B. and Florence (née Pfiefer) Ellis. She was married to the late John “Jack” R. Findley on March 2, 1957. She is survived by her children John (Joanna) Findley, Michael Findley, Edward Findley, Judy (Ron) Koziura, Richard Findley, Daniel (Andrea) Findley all of Lorain and Linda (Jack) Hirsch of Olmsted Township and a brother Paul W. Ellis of Englewood, Florida; 13 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Robert and James, Ellis and sisters Marjorie Beres and Florence McVey.

Virginia graduated from Lorain High School in 1952. She worked at Avon Oaks Daycare Center from 1985 until 2008. She enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on Catawba Island, going on picnics and family functions. She was "Grandma" not only to her own, but all the children in the neighborhood.

She was involved with the Southview High School wrestling program attending many matches and tournaments. She ran the hospitality room at countless wrestling tournaments for many years.

She was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and loved all sports, including junior drag racing at Norwalk Raceway where two of her grandchildren participated.

Visitation will be at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish, 2143 Homewood Drive, (Grove Ave. and Homewood Dr.) Lorain on Thursday, April 14, 2016 from noon until time of her Funeral Mass at 3:00 p.m. Reverend Fr. John C. Retar, Pastor will officiate. Interment will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers her family suggests memorial contributions to St. Frances Cabrini Endowment Fund of the Alzheimer’s Association.
