David B. Gere, 70, U.S. Air Force Veteran

Photo of David B. Gere David B. Gere, age 70, of Sheffield Lake, passed away on the evening of Friday April 15, 2016 while a patient at Mercy Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Lorain on September 7, 1945 and was a 1963 graduate of Admiral King High School. Mr. Gere had been a resident of Sheffield Lake since 1972.

David was a veteran of the United States Air Force fulfilling duty assignments as a truck driver with the transportation depot while stationed in Anchorage, Alaska.

He was employed as a crane operator for the United States Steel Corporation, along with its successor companies, for thirty-five years.

He was an avid Mr. Fix-It and tinkerer who enjoyed discovering how things operated and repairing anything that did not work properly. David was regarded as a talented woodworker who also enjoyed working on automobiles. He liked music and had established an extensive collection of jazz artists. Additional interests included solving crossword puzzles, following sports, and watching movies; he especially liked comedies.

David is survived by his wife of forty-five years AnnaMaria (nee Garcia), by sons Brian and Jason both residing in Sheffield Lake, brother Robert (Josie) Gere of Michigan, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Dorothy (nee Shepherd) Gere, brother Alan, and sister Linda McCullough.

Visitation will be Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain.
