George Snyder, Jr., 68, Loved Animals

Photo of George Snyder, Jr. George Snyder, Jr., 68, died suddenly on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the Cleveland Clinic, Fairview Hospital after a three-day illness.

He was proud to have served as a Marine, being honorably discharged in 1972.

George worked for 30 years at Frito Lay in Canton. After he retired in 1998, he worked in maintenance for McDonalds in Canton and a as a busser for Olive Garden in Findlay and Canton.

He was baptized in 2002 at Norwalk Baptist Church and then went to membership in First Baptist of Sheffield Lake in 2010. George and his wife of 20 years, Mary Cain Snyder went into fulltime work as Senior Soldiers in the Salvation Army, Lorain Corps in 2015.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lula Snyder.

He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Mary, whom he married on April 7, 1996; a stepson Steve Cain; stepdaughter Julie Cain and step grandchildren Paul and Emily Cain.

George loved animals and especially his cats Wobbles, Gaby and Sophie.

George considered volunteering at the Salvation Army a blessed privilege. His last act of kindness was to buy a full set of new clothes for a homeless man.

His family will receive friends 10 AM to noon, Friday, May 13 at the Salvation Army Chapel, 2506 Broadway Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052. A noontime service will be conducted by Lt. Jimmy Susa. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. The Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20 will conduct Military Honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Food Pantry or Friendship Animal Protective League.
