Hector Torres, 88, Faithful Member of Sacred Heart Chapel
Hector Torres, 88, of Lorain passed away Monday, June 13, 2016 in his home surrounded by his family.
He was born January 18, 1928 In Utuado, Puerto Rico. Hector came to Lorain in 1950. Hector served in the Puerto Rico National Guard from 1947 to 1950. He retired as a grinder at the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant in 1988. He worked there for over 18 years. He also was an employee of Fruehauf Trailer Corp in Avon Lake from 1951 to 1970.
Hector was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. He was a Pathfinder of the Cursillo Movement for 40 years until 2002. Hector served as the president of St. Vincent DePaul Society for 25 years. He was a founder of the church’s credit union. Because of Hector’s commitment to Sacred Heart, they were able to pay off the church’s mortgage on Pearl Avenue in only five years. He was dedicated to God and his family.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 64 years, Rafaela “Fella” Torres (née Martinez), sons Hector (Maggie) Torres, John (Reina) Torres and Edwin Torres all of Lorain; daughters Zoraida Torres of Lorain, Judy (Jose) Gonzalez of Amherst, Mary Jean Andujar and Ana B. Parrilla both of Lorain; foster children Celestino “Cel” (Elba) Rivera and Nilda (Mike) Fernandez both of Lorain; brother Audali Rios of Sheffield Village; 22 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
Hector was preceded in death by his parents Gil and Ramona (née Rios) Torres; brothers Aurelio and Guillermo Torres; sisters Gladys Salva and Olga Velez and a grandson Elias Andujar.
His family will receive friends Thursday, June 16, from 4 to 8 PM at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave., Lorain, Ohio 44055. Friends may also call Friday from 8:30 until 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial in the chapel. Rev. Father William A. Thaden, pastor will officiate. His burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
