David R. Kennedy, 83, Collected Comic Books, Stamps and Coins
David R. Kennedy, 83, of Lorain, died Monday September 26, 2016 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain.
He was born January 30, 1933 in Portsmouth, Ohio and had resided in Lorain since 1968.
David was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio where he received a Bachelor Degree in Education and Library Science. He earned his Master’s Degree from Baldwin Wallace University in Berea.
David taught history at Admiral King High School in Lorain until retiring in 1983. For ten years after his retirement, he was a substitute teacher in the Sheffield/Sheffield Lake school system.
He was very active in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and had served as a Boy Scout Leader.
David enjoyed Marvel Comics and was a big fan of Spiderman. He collected comic books, stamps and coins.
He was a well-loved person by all.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years Sally Kennedy (nee Durfee); children Gregory Kennedy of Florida, Maryann Kennedy of New Jersey and Elizabeth Parker of Cleveland; grandchildren: Sean Kennedy, Aaron Kennedy, Nicole Parker-Lococo, Joshua Cutlip, Candice Martin and James Burress; 9 great grandchildren and sister Cheryl Spinner (Scott) of Sydney, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Gabrielle, parents Collins & Louise Kennedy (nee Berthold) and great granddaughter Angel Marie Lynn Rojas.
The family will receive friends Thursday September 29 th from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Friday September 30th at 10:30 am in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Madsen, pastor of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain, presiding. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon.
